Tricyclazole 75% W.P. is a systemic fungicide registered for use in India under the Insecticides Act, 1968 and sold under various trade names including TagTeem and G-Tricil. It is a specialist rice-blast fungicide, used almost exclusively in paddy (rice) to control leaf blast and neck blast caused by Magnaporthe oryzae. Tricyclazole remains legally registered and sold in India; always confirm the current pack label before use. This page lists its mode of action, key benefits and the recommended dosage as per manufacturer labels.

    Mode of Action

Tricyclazole works by blocking melanin biosynthesis inside the fungal pathogen, specifically inhibiting the enzymes involved in producing melanin within the appressorium — the specialised structure the blast fungus uses to physically penetrate the rice leaf or neck tissue. Since the fungus needs melanin to build up the turgor pressure required to force its way through the plant's outer cell wall, blocking melanin production prevents successful infection even though the fungal spore may still germinate on the leaf surface. Because it acts on the infection (penetration) process rather than only killing existing fungal growth, it is most effective as a preventive spray applied before or at the earliest sign of disease, and it moves systemically within the plant to give protection to new growth after application.

    Features & Benefits

    • Purpose-built for rice blast (leaf blast and neck blast), one of the most yield-limiting diseases of paddy in India.
    • Rainfast formulation — effectiveness is not reduced by rainfall soon after spraying.
    • Systemic movement within the plant extends protection to new leaf growth that emerges after application.
    • Effective both as a preventive spray and at the earliest sign of disease, giving flexibility in spray timing.

Recommended Usage of Tricyclazole 75% W.P. Fungicide

The table below gives the commonly recommended dose and water volume per acre for paddy, as listed on manufacturer labels for this active ingredient. Always confirm against the current product label before use.

Crop Target Disease Dose per Acre Water Volume per Acre
Paddy (Rice) Leaf Blast, Neck Blast (Magnaporthe oryzae) 120–160 g 200 litres

Doses above are the commonly listed formulation-label rate for Tricyclazole 75% W.P. in paddy, rounded to practical spray-tank quantities. Always confirm the current pack label/CIB registration and consult your local agricultural extension office for the latest guidance.

    How to Use

    1. Scout the field regularly from the tillering stage onward, and confirm the correct dose per acre from the current product label.
    2. Make a thin paste of the required quantity in a small amount of water, then dilute this gradually into the full spray tank volume while stirring continuously so the wettable powder disperses evenly.
    3. Spray using a knapsack or power sprayer fitted with a flat-fan or hollow-cone nozzle for uniform leaf coverage, preferably during the early morning or late evening.
    4. Apply as a preventive spray in blast-prone areas/seasons, or immediately on first appearance of leaf blast symptoms; for neck blast protection, ensure coverage timed around the boot-leaf to early heading stage as per the label.
    5. Repeat sprays at 10–15 day intervals if disease pressure or weather conditions (high humidity, cloudy weather) continue to favour blast development.

    Precautions & Safety

    • Wear appropriate PPE — mask/respirator, gloves, goggles and full-sleeved clothing — while mixing and spraying, and avoid inhaling the wettable powder dust while opening the pack.
    • Do a small jar-compatibility test before tank-mixing with other agrochemicals.
    • Store in the original, tightly closed container in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight, food, feed and out of reach of children and livestock.
    • Follow your local agricultural extension advice on the waiting period before harvest, and confirm the current label for the latest guidance.
    • Avoid repeated, back-to-back applications of the same fungicide across a season; rotate with a fungicide from a different mode-of-action group as part of a resistance-management program, since tricyclazole is a single-site fungicide.
    • Wash hands, face and any exposed skin thoroughly with soap and water after handling or spraying, and change out of contaminated clothing before eating, drinking or smoking.
