Chlorfenapyr 10% SC is a pyrrole-group insecticide and acaricide registered for use in India under the Insecticides Act, 1968, formulated as a suspension concentrate (SC) for foliar spraying. It is registered for the control of diamondback moth in cabbage and mites (yellow mite, Polyphagotarsonemus latus) in chilli. This page lists its mode of action, key benefits and the recommended dosage as per the Central Insecticides Board & Registration Committee (CIB&RC) official list of approved insecticide uses (Government of India).

Which Problem Is This For? (Symptom Guide)

Not sure whether the damage in your field matches this insecticide's use case? This guide helps match what you see in the field to this insecticide's approved crop-wise uses.

Crop Other Names What You'll See in the Field
Cabbage — Diamondback moth हीरक पृष्ठ पतंगा (Heerak Prishth Patanga), डायमंड बैक मॉथ Small, pale green larvae that wriggle backwards and drop on a silk thread when disturbed. They scrape the underside of leaves, leaving papery "windows" that later become holes; in heavy attack the leaves are riddled with holes and the developing head is damaged and fouled with droppings.
Chilli — Mites (yellow mite) पीली माइट (Peeli Mite), मुरड़ा/कुकड़ा रोग Leaves curl downwards and become narrow, thickened and leathery, with a shiny or bronzed underside; growing tips are stunted and bunched. Flowers drop and the few fruits that set are small and scarred. The mites themselves are too small to see clearly with the naked eye.

    Mode of Action

Chlorfenapyr is a pyrrole insecticide-acaricide (IRAC Group 13). It is a pro-insecticide: after entering the pest it is converted by the pest's own enzymes into its active form, which uncouples oxidative phosphorylation in the mitochondria by disrupting the proton gradient. The pest's cells can no longer produce energy (ATP), so it becomes sluggish, stops feeding and dies. It acts mainly by stomach and contact action and has translaminar movement in the leaf, which helps it reach larvae and mites feeding on the underside of leaves.

    Features & Benefits

    • A single active registered against both a leaf-eating caterpillar (diamondback moth in cabbage) and mites (in chilli).
    • Group 13 mode of action, unrelated to organophosphates, pyrethroids and diamides — a useful rotation partner for resistance management.
    • Translaminar movement helps it reach pests feeding on the underside of leaves.
    • Suspension concentrate (SC) formulation that mixes readily with water for uniform spraying.

Recommended Usage of Chlorfenapyr 10% SC Insecticide

The table below gives the recommended dose, water volume and waiting period per acre, converted from the CIB&RC-registered per-hectare rate — see the note below the table for conversion details. Always confirm against the current product label before use.

Crop Target Pest Dose per Acre Water Volume per Acre Waiting Period (PHI)
Cabbage Diamondback moth ~300–400 ml ~200 litres 7 days
Chilli Mites (yellow mite) ~300–400 ml ~200 litres 5 days

    Figures above are converted from the CIB&RC-registered per-hectare rates (1 ha ≈ 2.47 acres): cabbage — 75–100 g a.i./ha, 750–1000 ml formulation/ha, 500 L water/ha, waiting period 7 days; chilli — 75–100 g a.i./ha, 750–1000 ml formulation/ha, 500 L water/ha, waiting period 5 days. Always confirm the current dose on your specific product's label before use.

    How to Use

    1. Identify the pest from the symptom guide above and confirm the dose from the table.
    2. Shake the container well, mix the measured quantity in a little water first, then add it to the spray tank and top up to the full volume while stirring.
    3. Spray uniformly over the crop, covering both the upper and lower leaf surfaces where diamondback moth larvae and mites feed.
    4. Spray at the first sign of larval feeding damage or mite leaf-curling, or at the crop stage advised by your local agricultural extension office.
    5. Spray in calm weather in the early morning or late evening, and avoid spraying if rain is expected within a few hours.

    Precautions & Safety

    • Wear appropriate PPE — mask/respirator, gloves, goggles and full-sleeved clothing — while mixing and spraying, and avoid inhaling the spray mist.
    • Follow the recommended dose strictly; do not mix with other pesticides unless specifically recommended.
    • Respect the waiting period (PHI) before harvesting the treated crop — 7 days for cabbage and 5 days for chilli.
    • Do not spray on flowering crops while bees are actively foraging; spray in the early morning or late evening instead.
    • Do not let spray wash or field water reach ponds, fish tanks, streams or drinking-water sources.
    • Store in the original, tightly closed container in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight, food and feed, and out of reach of children and livestock.
    • Wash hands, face and any exposed skin thoroughly with soap and water after spraying, and change out of contaminated clothing before eating, drinking or smoking.
