Pyriproxyfen 5% + Diafenthiuron 25% SE is a combination insecticide pairing an insect growth regulator (pyriproxyfen) with a thiourea acaricide-insecticide (diafenthiuron), registered for use in India under the Insecticides Act, 1968, formulated as a suspo-emulsion (SE). It is registered for control of whitefly, thrips, jassid, aphid and mites in cotton, and whitefly, thrips and mites in chilli. This page lists its mode of action, key benefits and the complete crop-wise recommended dosage as per the Central Insecticides Board & Registration Committee’s (CIB&RC) official list of approved insecticide uses.

    Mode of Action

This combination product works through two different mechanisms. Pyriproxyfen is a juvenile-hormone-mimicking insect growth regulator that disrupts normal metamorphosis, preventing immature stages (especially whitefly nymphs) from developing into viable, reproducing adults. Diafenthiuron is converted inside the insect’s body into an active metabolite that inhibits mitochondrial ATP synthase, blocking the pest’s cellular energy production; this leads to reduced feeding, paralysis and death of both insects and mites. Together, they give both immediate reduction in feeding pests and disruption of the whitefly population’s ability to build up over time.

    Features & Benefits

    • Dual mode of action gives control of both whitefly/sucking-pest adults and their developing nymphs, helping break the pest’s reproductive cycle.
    • Also active against mites, giving broader-spectrum protection than a whitefly-only or thrips-only product.
    • Useful rotation option where cotton and chilli whitefly populations have developed resistance to older insecticide groups.
    • Suspo-emulsion (SE) formulation combines suspension and emulsion technology for good mixing and leaf coverage.

Recommended Usage of Pyriproxyfen 5% + Diafenthiuron 25% SE Insecticide

The table below gives the recommended dose per acre, converted from the official rate published in the Central Insecticides Board & Registration Committee’s (CIB&RC) list of approved insecticide uses (Government of India), which is expressed per hectare (1 ha ≈ 2.47 acres). Always spray in the recommended water volume for uniform coverage, and confirm against the current product label before use.

Crop Target Pest Formulation per Acre (ml) Water Volume per Acre Waiting Period (days)
Cotton Whitefly, Thrips, Jassid, Aphid 404.9–506.1 202.4 35
    Chilli Whitefly, Thrips, Mites 303.6–404.9 202.4 10

Doses above are converted from the official rate published in the CIB&RC’s list of approved insecticide uses (Government of India), which states the rate per hectare; converted here to a practical per-acre spray-tank quantity (1 ha ≈ 2.47 acres) and rounded. Always confirm the current dose on your specific product’s label, and consult your local agricultural extension office if in doubt.

    How to Use

    1. Identify your crop and target pest from the table above, and confirm the correct dose and water volume.
    2. Measure the required quantity of Pyriproxyfen 5% + Diafenthiuron 25% SE and add it to the spray tank half-filled with water, then stir well, since this is a suspo-emulsion (SE) formulation.
    3. Apply as a fine, uniform spray covering the entire crop canopy, including leaf undersides where whitefly, thrips and mites congregate.
    4. Spray at the first appearance of pest activity or on crossing the economic threshold level, based on field scouting.
    5. Rotate with insecticides/acaricides from a different mode-of-action group across the season to manage resistance in whitefly and mite populations.

    Precautions & Safety

    • Wear appropriate PPE — mask/respirator, gloves, goggles and full-sleeved clothing — while mixing and spraying, and avoid inhaling spray mist.
    • Follow the recommended dose strictly; do not mix with other pesticides unless specifically recommended, and never spray during flowering when bees are foraging, as many insecticides are toxic to bees.
    • Respect the waiting period (PHI) given in the table above and on the current product label before harvesting the treated crop.
    • Spray during calm weather (early morning or late evening), avoiding rain within a few hours of application and high wind that causes spray drift.
    • Store in the original, tightly closed container in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight, food and feed, and out of reach of children and livestock.
    • Wash hands, face and any exposed skin thoroughly with soap and water after handling or spraying, and change out of contaminated clothing before eating, drinking or smoking.
