Gibberellic Acid 40% WSG is a CIB-registered plant growth regulator (PGR) based on GA3, a natural plant hormone, formulated as a highly concentrated water-soluble granule. It is used at specific crop growth stages to improve shoot/panicle elongation, berry size, ear emergence and overall crop development in grape, rice, wheat and maize. This page lists its mode of action, key benefits and the complete crop-wise recommended dosage as per the CIB-approved label.

Which Growth Problem Is This For?

Gibberellic Acid 40% WSG sprays are reached for at specific growth-stage bottlenecks rather than sprayed as a routine input. The table below maps common growth problems in the crops covered on this page to when a spray is generally used to address them.

Crop Growth Problem What You'll See / When to Use
Grape Poor shoot elongation, small berries Slow shoot/cane growth before bloom, or berries not sizing up after fruit set; sprayed at pre-bloom elongation and again at fruit-setting/thinning (6–7 mm berry size)
Rice (Paddy) Weak tillering, poor panicle emergence Slow early growth after transplanting, or panicles emerging unevenly/incompletely; sprayed 20–25 days after transplanting and again at panicle emergence
Wheat Uneven ear emergence Ears emerging late or unevenly across the field; sprayed 20–25 days after sowing, around 10% ear emergence
Maize Slow early growth Stunted-looking crop at the knee-high stage compared to expected growth; sprayed at the knee-high stage (25–30 DAS)

    Mode of Action

Gibberellic Acid (GA3) is a naturally occurring plant growth hormone that regulates cell elongation and cell division, mainly in stems, internodes and reproductive structures. Applied as a foliar spray at the correct growth stage, it is absorbed by leaves and translocated within the plant, promoting internode/shoot elongation in grape, supporting panicle and ear emergence in rice and wheat, and aiding overall vegetative vigour in maize. The 40% WSG formulation delivers a high, precisely measurable concentration of active ingredient at low application volumes.

    Features & Benefits

    • Improves shoot elongation and berry development in grape when applied at the pre-bloom and fruit-setting stages
    • Supports more even tillering and panicle emergence in rice
    • Helps synchronise ear emergence in wheat for a more uniform crop stand
    • Supports vigorous early growth in maize at the knee-high stage
    • Highly concentrated water-soluble granule (WSG) formulation that is easy to measure and dissolves readily in the spray tank

Recommended Usage of Gibberellic Acid 40% WSG Plant Growth Regulator

The CIB label states these doses per hectare; the table below also shows the equivalent per-acre figures (1 ha ≈ 2.47 acres) for easier field dosing.

Crop Growth Stage Dose per Hectare (a.i. / formulation) Dose per Acre (a.i. / formulation) Water Volume per Acre
    Grape Pre-Bloom Elongation stage 40 g / 50 g ≈16.2 g / ≈20.2 g ≈202 litres (from 500 litres/ha)
    Grape Fruit Setting/Thinning stage (6–7 mm berry size, for berry enlargement) 40 g / 50 g ≈16.2 g / ≈20.2 g ≈202 litres (from 500 litres/ha)
    Rice (Paddy) 20–25 Days After Transplanting 20–25 g / 50–62.5 g ≈8.1–10.1 g / ≈20.2–25.3 g ≈202 litres (from 500 litres/ha)
    Rice (Paddy) Panicle emergence 20–25 g / 50–62.5 g ≈8.1–10.1 g / ≈20.2–25.3 g ≈202 litres (from 500 litres/ha)
    Wheat 20–25 Days After Sowing (at 10% ear emergence) 10–15 g / 25–37.5 g ≈4.1–6.1 g / ≈10.1–15.2 g ≈202 litres (from 500 litres/ha)
    Maize Knee-high stage (25–30 DAS) 20 g / 50 g ≈8.1 g / ≈20.2 g ≈202 litres (from 500 litres/ha)

Doses above are converted from the official CIB label rates, expressed per hectare (1 ha ≈ 2.47 acres); a.i. = active ingredient. Always confirm against the current product label before spraying, and follow your local agricultural extension advice.

    How to Use

    1. Identify your crop, growth stage and the corresponding dose from the table above.
    2. Dissolve the required quantity of Gibberellic Acid 40% WSG completely in a small quantity of water first, then add it to the spray tank filled with the full recommended water volume for your acreage, stirring well until fully dissolved.
    3. Spray as a fine, uniform mist over the crop canopy using a knapsack, power or boom sprayer, ensuring even coverage.
    4. Apply during the cooler hours of early morning or late evening, and avoid spraying in strong wind or if rain is expected within a few hours, as this can wash off the spray and reduce effectiveness.
    5. Where the crop calls for more than one spray, repeat at the growth stage given in the table – do not bunch sprays closer together than recommended.

    Precautions & Safety

    • Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (gloves, mask, full-sleeve clothing) while mixing and spraying.
    • Measure quantities precisely – because this is a highly concentrated 40% WSG formulation, even small errors in mixing can under- or over-dose the crop.
    • Check compatibility before tank-mixing with other pesticides, fertilisers or micronutrients; do a small jar test first if unsure.
    • Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight, heat and out of reach of children and animals; keep the container tightly closed.
    • Do not exceed the recommended dose or spray frequency – over-application can cause abnormal elongation, weak/lodging-prone growth or reduced yield rather than an improvement.
    • Wash hands, face and exposed skin thoroughly with soap after handling, and avoid contaminating ponds, wells or other water sources with spray residue or rinse water.
