Gibberellic Acid 0.186% SP is a CIB-registered plant growth regulator (PGR) based on GA3, a natural plant hormone, approved specifically for improving fibre quality in cotton. This page lists its mode of action, key benefits and the recommended dose and application method as per the CIB-approved label.
Which Growth Problem Is This For?
Gibberellic Acid 0.186% SP has a single approved use on this label – improving fibre quality in cotton. The table below maps that growth problem to when a spray is generally used to address it.
| Crop | Growth Problem | What You'll See / When to Use |
|---|---|---|
| Cotton | Poor fibre/lint quality | Lint that is shorter, weaker or less uniform than expected at picking; sprayed once at square formation or early flowering stage to improve fibre development |
Mode of Action
Gibberellic Acid (GA3) is a naturally occurring plant hormone that regulates cell elongation and cell division. In cotton, a spray timed at square formation or early flowering influences the development of the fibre-bearing cells in the developing boll, supporting longer, more uniform fibre elongation as the boll matures. Because fibre quality is set early in boll development, timing the single spray correctly at square formation/early flowering is important for the intended effect.
Features & Benefits
- Improves cotton fibre/lint quality, supporting better staple length and uniformity at picking
- Single, precisely-timed spray keeps the application simple to plan around the square formation/early flowering window
- Water-soluble powder (SP) formulation that mixes and dissolves readily in the spray tank
Recommended Usage of Gibberellic Acid 0.186% SP Plant Growth Regulator
The CIB label states this dose per hectare; the table below also shows the equivalent per-acre figures (1 ha ≈ 2.47 acres) for easier field dosing.
| Crop | Purpose | Dose per Hectare | Dose per Acre | Water Volume per Acre | Timing |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Cotton | Improve fibre quality | 142 g a.i./ha (71 g formulation/ha) | ≈57.5 g a.i./acre (≈28.7 g formulation/acre) | ≈182–202 litres (from 450–500 litres/ha) | One spray at square formation or early flowering stage |
Doses above are converted from the official CIB label rate, expressed per hectare (1 ha ≈ 2.47 acres); the a.i. and formulation figures are for the standard 71 g formulation/ha rate stated on the label. Always confirm against the current product label before spraying, and follow your local agricultural extension advice.
How to Use
- Calculate the formulation quantity and water volume needed for your field area using the per-acre figures in the table above.
- Dissolve the required quantity of Gibberellic Acid 0.186% SP completely in a small quantity of water first, then add it to the spray tank filled with the full recommended water volume, stirring well until fully mixed.
- Spray as a fine, uniform mist over the crop canopy using a knapsack, power or boom sprayer, ensuring even coverage.
- Time the spray precisely at square formation or early flowering stage – this is a single-application product and timing has a direct bearing on fibre quality outcomes.
- Apply during the cooler hours of early morning or late evening, and avoid spraying in strong wind or if rain is expected within a few hours, as this can wash off the spray and reduce effectiveness.
Precautions & Safety
- Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (gloves, mask, full-sleeve clothing) while mixing and spraying.
- Check compatibility before tank-mixing with other pesticides, fertilisers or micronutrients; do a small jar test first if unsure.
- Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight, heat and out of reach of children and animals; keep the container tightly closed.
- Do not exceed the recommended dose – over-application does not improve fibre quality further and only increases input cost.
- Wash hands, face and exposed skin thoroughly with soap after handling, and avoid contaminating ponds, wells or other water sources with spray residue or rinse water.
