Thiamethoxam 30% FS is a systemic insecticide from the neonicotinoid chemical class, formulated specifically as a flowable concentrate for seed treatment (FS). It is registered for use in India under the Insecticides Act, 1968 and sold under various trade names including Apterra Plus and Kisan Thiam Plus. Unlike most technicals on this site, it is used exclusively as a seed dressing — not as a foliar spray — across cotton, sorghum, wheat, soybean, chilli, okra, maize and sunflower, protecting the young crop from early sucking pests and soil pests right from germination. Thiamethoxam remains legally registered and sold in India; always confirm the current pack label before use. Mode of Action
Thiamethoxam acts on the insect nervous system by binding to nicotinic acetylcholine receptors (nAChRs), causing continuous, uncontrolled nerve stimulation that leads to paralysis and death of the target insect. As a broad-spectrum, contact, stomach and systemic insecticide, it can act on pests through direct contact, through ingestion of treated plant tissue, and through the plant's own vascular system once absorbed. Applied as a seed treatment, thiamethoxam is taken up by the germinating seed and young roots and moves systemically into the seedling, giving protection against early-season sucking pests (aphids, jassids, whiteflies, thrips) and certain soil/stem pests (termites, shoot fly, stem fly) from the moment the crop emerges, without needing an early foliar spray.

How to Use
- Identify your crop and target pest from the table above, and confirm the correct dose per kg of seed.
- Measure the required quantity of Thiamethoxam 30% FS for the total seed lot to be treated, and dilute it in a small amount of water if directed on the label to help even coating.
- Spread the seed in a shaded area and apply the measured product evenly, mixing thoroughly (by hand with gloves, or in a mechanical seed treatment drum) so every seed gets a uniform coating.
- Dry treated seed in shade before sowing or storage — do not dry in direct sunlight, and do not sow wet-treated seed immediately if the label specifies a drying period.
- Sow treated seed within the time frame recommended on the label, and do not use treated seed for food, feed or oil extraction — clearly mark and store it separately from untreated seed.
Precautions & Safety
- Wear appropriate PPE — mask/respirator, gloves, goggles and full-sleeved clothing — while handling and mixing the seed treatment product, and while treating and handling coated seed.
- Neonicotinoid seed treatments like thiamethoxam are highly toxic to bees; ensure treated seed is fully covered by soil at sowing so that no treated seed remains exposed on the surface where birds or other wildlife could access it.
- Never use thiamethoxam-treated seed for human or animal consumption, or for oil extraction — treated seed is for sowing only.
- Store in the original, tightly closed container in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight, food, feed and out of reach of children and livestock.
- Neonicotinoids share a common mode of action; where a foliar neonicotinoid spray is also planned later in the same crop, factor in the seed treatment's residual protection to avoid unnecessary repeated exposure and support resistance management.
- Wash hands, face and any exposed skin thoroughly with soap and water after handling, and change out of contaminated clothing before eating, drinking or smoking.
