Lambda Cyhalothrin 10% WP is a synthetic pyrethroid insecticide, registered for use in India under the Insecticides Act, 1968, formulated as a wettable powder (WP). Unlike the field-crop insecticides on this site, it is registered specifically for public-health and household pest control — mosquitoes, houseflies and cockroaches — applied as an indoor residual spray rather than a crop spray. This page lists its mode of action, key benefits and the recommended application rate as per the Central Insecticides Board & Registration Committee’s (CIB&RC) official list of approved insecticide uses.
Mode of Action
Lambda cyhalothrin acts on the insect’s nervous system as a fast-acting contact poison. It binds to voltage-gated sodium channels in nerve cell membranes, keeping them open longer than normal; this causes repeated, uncontrolled nerve impulses, leading to tremors, paralysis (knockdown) and death of the target insect. Applied as an indoor residual spray on walls and resting surfaces, it leaves a residue that continues to knock down mosquitoes, houseflies and cockroaches that come into contact with the treated surface for some time after application.
Features & Benefits
- Fast knockdown action gives quick, visible control of mosquitoes, houseflies and cockroaches on contact.
- Residual indoor-surface application continues to control pests landing on treated walls and surfaces after spraying.
- Registered specifically for public-health and household use, distinct from agricultural field-crop applications.
- Wettable powder (WP) formulation is straightforward to mix with water for indoor spraying.
Recommended Usage of Lambda Cyhalothrin 10% WP Insecticide
The table below gives the CIB&RC-recommended application rate exactly as published in the Central Insecticides Board & Registration Committee’s (CIB&RC) list of approved insecticide uses (Government of India). This is a public-health/household indoor residual spray, measured per 500 m³ of floor area, not a per-acre crop-spray rate, so it is not converted using the hectare-to-acre factor used elsewhere on this site.
| Crop | Target Pest | Application Rate (per 500 m³ Floor Area) | Water Volume per Acre | Waiting Period (days) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Mosquitoes (public health use) | 75–150 gm formulation in 10 litres water per 500 m³ floor area | |||
| Mosquito, housefly, cockroach (household use) | 100 gm formulation in 10 litres water per 500 m³ floor area | |||
The rates above are shown exactly as published in the CIB&RC’s list of approved insecticide uses (Government of India) for public-health and household indoor use, measured per 500 m³ of floor area — this is not an agricultural field-crop dose, so no hectare-to-acre conversion applies. Always confirm the current dose on your specific product’s label before use.
How to Use
- Confirm the correct application rate for your target pest (mosquitoes, or houseflies/cockroaches for household use) and the floor area to be treated, from the table above.
- Mix the required quantity of Lambda Cyhalothrin 10% WP into 10 litres of water per 500 m³ of floor area, stirring to form a uniform suspension, since this is a wettable powder (WP) formulation.
- Apply as an indoor residual spray to walls, ceilings and other resting surfaces where the target pests land, using a suitable hand-compression or knapsack sprayer fitted with a flat-fan nozzle.
- Ensure the room is vacated during spraying and ventilated well afterward before re-occupation, and cover or remove food, utensils and drinking water before treatment.
- Avoid spraying directly onto food-preparation surfaces, and keep children and pets away from freshly treated surfaces until they are dry.
Precautions & Safety
- Wear appropriate PPE — mask/respirator, gloves and goggles — while mixing and spraying, and avoid inhaling spray mist.
- Follow the recommended dose strictly; do not exceed the stated concentration per 500 m³ floor area, and do not apply to food, utensils or drinking-water containers.
- Vacate and ventilate the treated room as directed on the label before re-occupation, and keep children and pets away from freshly sprayed surfaces until dry.
- Spray only on the surfaces specified on the label (walls, resting surfaces); do not spray directly onto skin, clothing or open food.
- Store in the original, tightly closed container in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight, food and feed, and out of reach of children and pets.
- Wash hands, face and any exposed skin thoroughly with soap and water after handling or spraying, and change out of contaminated clothing before eating, drinking or smoking.
