Mancozeb 75% WP is a broad-spectrum, protectant fungicide from the dithiocarbamate chemical class, registered for use in India across a very wide range of field crops, vegetables and fruit crops. It works purely by contact/protective action with a multi-site mode of action, giving it a very low risk of the target fungus developing resistance. Mode of Action

Mancozeb is a multi-site contact fungicide — rather than blocking one specific enzyme or process in the fungus (a single-site mode of action, which resistance can develop against relatively easily), it interferes with several different cellular processes at once by disrupting enzymes involved in fungal respiration and metabolism. This broad, multi-point disruption is why mancozeb is classified by FRAC (Fungicide Resistance Action Committee) as a very low resistance-risk fungicide (Group M03). It has purely protective/preventive action with no systemic movement, forming a protective film on the leaf and fruit surface that must be present before spores land and germinate — it does not cure an infection that has already established inside plant tissue. Because of this, and because rain or new growth can wash off or dilute the protective film, timely and repeat application ahead of expected disease pressure is essential for good control.

Doses above are converted from the official label rate, expressed per hectare (1 ha ≈ 2.47 acres — roughly 1.5–2 kg/ha for most crops), rounded to practical spray-tank quantities, and cross-checked across manufacturer labels and TNAU's published fungicide recommendations. TNAU-sourced figures for some crops show a shorter waiting period (as low as 3–6 days); this page uses the longer, more conservative manufacturer-label PHI range as the safer default. Waiting period for ginger is not separately confirmed and follows the general range above. Orchard tree crops (apple, guava, coconut, walnut) are dosed per tree (roughly 20–30 g per 10 litres water per tree) rather than per acre — this figure is single-sourced to one manufacturer's label and should be confirmed against your specific product pack before use. Always confirm the current pack label/CIB registration before use.

How to Use

  1. Identify your crop and confirm the correct dose per acre from the table above before mixing.
  2. First make a thin paste of the required quantity of Mancozeb 75% WP in a small amount of water, then dilute this gradually into the full spray tank volume while stirring continuously, so the wettable powder disperses evenly and does not settle or clog the nozzle.
  3. Spray using a knapsack or power sprayer fitted with a flat-fan nozzle for uniform leaf coverage, preferably during the early morning or late evening; avoid spraying in hot, windy conditions or when rain is expected within a few hours, since this is a purely protective fungicide that needs to dry on the leaf surface to be effective.
  4. Because mancozeb is only protective (not curative), begin spraying ahead of expected disease pressure — based on local weather/disease-forecast advisories or past field history — rather than waiting for symptoms to appear.
  5. Repeat sprays at 7–10 day intervals under high disease pressure, or as advised by local agricultural extension, and always respect the waiting period before harvest. Mancozeb's very low resistance risk makes it a good rotation/tank-mix partner alongside single-site systemic fungicides such as metalaxyl-M.

Precautions & Safety

  • Wear appropriate PPE — mask/respirator, gloves, goggles and full-sleeved clothing — while mixing and spraying, and avoid inhaling the wettable powder dust while opening the pack.
  • Mancozeb is generally compatible with most commonly used insecticides and fungicides, but avoid tank-mixing with strongly alkaline materials; always do a small jar-compatibility test before mixing with an unfamiliar product.
  • Store in the original, tightly closed container in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight, food and feed, and out of reach of children and livestock.
  • As a purely protective fungicide, it must be applied before disease appears and reapplied after heavy rain washes off the residue — relying on it after an infection is already visible will not control that infection.
  • Always respect the label waiting period before harvest, and follow your local agricultural extension advice on the appropriate interval for crops not listed above.
  • Wash hands, face and any exposed skin thoroughly with soap and water after handling or spraying, and change out of contaminated clothing before eating, drinking or smoking.
