Dinotefuran 15% + Pymetrozine 45% WG is a combination insecticide pairing a neonicotinoid (dinotefuran) with a pyridine azomethine (pymetrozine), registered for use in India under the Insecticides Act, 1968, formulated as a water-dispersible granule (WG). It is registered for the control of brown plant hopper, white backed plant hopper, green leaf hopper and rice ear head bug in paddy (rice). This page lists its mode of action, key benefits and the recommended dosage as per the Central Insecticides Board & Registration Committee’s (CIB&RC) official list of approved insecticide uses.

    Mode of Action

This combination product controls target pests through two complementary modes of action. Dinotefuran acts systemically on the insect’s central nervous system, binding to nicotinic acetylcholine receptors and causing continuous, uncontrolled nerve stimulation that leads to paralysis and death. Pymetrozine works differently — it selectively disrupts the feeding behaviour of hoppers and plant bugs, causing them to stop probing and feeding on the plant within hours, even before they die. Combining a fast-acting neurotoxic partner with a feeding-disruptor gives both rapid population knockdown and quick protection of the crop from further sap loss.

    Features & Benefits

    • Two complementary modes of action target the plant-hopper complex of paddy from different angles, useful where hoppers show reduced sensitivity to a single chemistry.
    • Pymetrozine component stops hopper feeding quickly, limiting further sap loss and the spread of hopper-transmitted damage even before full mortality.
    • Covers all three major paddy hopper species (brown plant hopper, white backed plant hopper, green leaf hopper) plus rice ear head bug in one product.
    • Water-dispersible granule (WG) formulation is easy to measure, mix and store.

Recommended Usage of Dinotefuran 15% + Pymetrozine 45% WG Insecticide

The table below gives the recommended dose per acre, converted from the official rate published in the Central Insecticides Board & Registration Committee’s (CIB&RC) list of approved insecticide uses (Government of India), which is expressed per hectare (1 ha ≈ 2.47 acres). Always spray in the recommended water volume for uniform coverage, and confirm against the current product label before use.

Crop Target Pest Formulation per Acre (gm) Water Volume per Acre Waiting Period (days)
Rice Brown plant hopper, White backed plant hopper, Green leaf hopper, Rice ear head bug 134.8 202.4 24

Doses above are converted from the official rate published in the CIB&RC’s list of approved insecticide uses (Government of India), which states the rate per hectare; converted here to a practical per-acre spray-tank quantity (1 ha ≈ 2.47 acres) and rounded. Always confirm the current dose on your specific product’s label, and consult your local agricultural extension office if in doubt.

    How to Use

    1. Confirm the correct dose and water volume from the table above for your paddy field.
    2. Measure the required quantity of Dinotefuran 15% + Pymetrozine 45% WG and add it to the spray tank half-filled with water, then stir to form a uniform suspension, since this is a water-dispersible granule (WG) formulation.
    3. Apply as a fine, uniform spray, directing it toward the base of the tillers where plant hoppers congregate, and toward the ear heads for ear head bug control.
    4. Spray at the first appearance of hopper activity or on crossing the economic threshold level, based on field scouting.
    5. Rotate with insecticides from a different mode-of-action group across the season, as hopper populations in several rice-growing regions have shown reduced sensitivity to some insecticide classes.

    Precautions & Safety

    • Wear appropriate PPE — mask/respirator, gloves, goggles and full-sleeved clothing — while mixing and spraying, and avoid inhaling spray mist.
    • Follow the recommended dose strictly; do not mix with other pesticides unless specifically recommended, and never spray during flowering when bees are foraging, as many insecticides are toxic to bees.
    • Respect the waiting period (PHI) given in the table above and on the current product label before harvesting the treated crop.
    • Spray during calm weather (early morning or late evening), avoiding rain within a few hours of application and high wind that causes spray drift.
    • Store in the original, tightly closed container in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight, food and feed, and out of reach of children and livestock.
    • Wash hands, face and any exposed skin thoroughly with soap and water after handling or spraying, and change out of contaminated clothing before eating, drinking or smoking.
