Emamectin Benzoate 1.5% + Fipronil 3.5% SC is a combination insecticide pairing an avermectin (emamectin benzoate) with a phenylpyrazole (fipronil), registered for use in India under the Insecticides Act, 1968, formulated as a suspension concentrate (SC). It is registered for the control of thrips and fruit borer in chilli. This page lists its mode of action, key benefits and the recommended dosage as per the Central Insecticides Board & Registration Committee’s (CIB&RC) official list of approved insecticide uses.
Mode of Action
This combination product acts through two complementary mechanisms. Emamectin benzoate stimulates the release of the inhibitory neurotransmitter GABA and enhances chloride ion flow at nerve junctions, causing irreversible paralysis and death, and it is particularly effective against caterpillar pests like fruit borer through stomach and contact action. Fipronil blocks GABA-gated chloride channels in the insect’s central nervous system, causing over-excitation of nerve cells, which leads to convulsions and death — effective against thrips and other sucking pests. Combining the two gives control of both the chewing (fruit borer) and sucking (thrips) pest complex affecting chilli.
Features & Benefits
- Combines a caterpillar-active component (emamectin benzoate) with a thrips-active component (fipronil), targeting the two major pest groups on chilli in one spray.
- Two distinct modes of action reduce the chance of both pest groups developing resistance simultaneously.
- Effective at low use rates due to high potency of both active ingredients.
- Suspension concentrate (SC) formulation mixes readily and gives good leaf coverage.
Recommended Usage of Emamectin Benzoate 1.5% + Fipronil 3.5% SC Insecticide
The table below gives the recommended dose per acre, converted from the official rate published in the Central Insecticides Board & Registration Committee’s (CIB&RC) list of approved insecticide uses (Government of India), which is expressed per hectare (1 ha ≈ 2.47 acres). Always spray in the recommended water volume for uniform coverage, and confirm against the current product label before use.
| Crop | Target Pest | Formulation per Acre (ml) | Water Volume per Acre | Waiting Period (days) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Chilli | Thrips, Fruit borer | 202.4–303.6 | 202.4 | 3 |
Doses above are converted from the official rate published in the CIB&RC’s list of approved insecticide uses (Government of India), which states the rate per hectare; converted here to a practical per-acre spray-tank quantity (1 ha ≈ 2.47 acres) and rounded. Always confirm the current dose on your specific product’s label, and consult your local agricultural extension office if in doubt.
How to Use
- Confirm the correct dose and water volume from the table above for your chilli crop.
- Measure the required quantity of Emamectin Benzoate 1.5% + Fipronil 3.5% SC and add it to the spray tank half-filled with water, then stir to form a uniform suspension, since this is a suspension concentrate (SC) formulation.
- Apply as a fine, uniform spray covering the entire plant canopy, including leaf undersides where thrips shelter and developing fruit where borer larvae feed.
- Spray at the first appearance of pest activity or on crossing the economic threshold level, based on field scouting.
- Respect the short 3-day waiting period before harvest given in the table, and rotate with insecticides from a different mode-of-action group across the season.
Precautions & Safety
- Wear appropriate PPE — mask/respirator, gloves, goggles and full-sleeved clothing — while mixing and spraying, and avoid inhaling spray mist.
- Follow the recommended dose strictly; do not mix with other pesticides unless specifically recommended, and never spray during flowering when bees are foraging, as many insecticides are toxic to bees.
- Respect the waiting period (PHI) given in the table above and on the current product label before harvesting the treated crop.
- Spray during calm weather (early morning or late evening), avoiding rain within a few hours of application and high wind that causes spray drift.
- Store in the original, tightly closed container in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight, food and feed, and out of reach of children and livestock.
- Wash hands, face and any exposed skin thoroughly with soap and water after handling or spraying, and change out of contaminated clothing before eating, drinking or smoking.
